Ships Machinery International — Dedicated To Offering An Umbrella Of Services

Since opening its doors to the maritime industry more than 30 years ago, Miami-based Ships Machinery

International (SMI) has adhered to its motto: "Service is what counts." This, along with the company's lucra- tive production of fixed pitch tunnel thrusters, own machine ship and spare parts department, has awarded

SMI with a conducive edge over its competitors. Pro- viding services for all of its products including steering gear and rudders, box cooler heat exchangers and ship- board cranes, the company has also added to its listing of products and services — fulfilling the needs of meeting the required critical areas in the marine indus- try.

As U.S. agents for Brunvoll, the supplier of Thruster

Systems for main maneuvering and main propulsion of ships, SMI goes to great lengths to not only act as a representative for this company, but also has the capa- bility of housing the company's spare parts inventory a small space, a simple operation, all USCG and IMO requirements, your budget.

SMI rounds out its offerings to the maritime industry with a representation of clients consisting of box cool- er manufactuer, Weka Marine; rudder manufactuerer,

Van der Velden; Krupp Fordertechnik, makers of ship- board cranes for container and cargo vessels; and pro- peller and reduction gearbox system company, Scana

Volda CP

More notably, Fundilusa, the principal supplier of propellers to all European right angle drive manufac- turers is SMI's most recent development.

Delving further into the service portion of SMI's offerings, the company is also certified to install and repair these safety mechanisms used on ships through- out the world, thus heightening its steady flame of growth on both ends — sales and service.

Like many marine equipment suppliers, SMI closely monitors oil pricing, cruise ship booking and general world shipyard orderbook trends in order to plot the course of demand for its products and services; partic- ularly for its "Big Two" client categories: offshore and cruise shipping. While the company has had to endure a cyclical downturn in offshore business, it has enjoyed a remarkable cruise ship building and supply rally, while preparing for the increased business volume that will follow the next offshore E&P rally.
