Offshore Report of production unit, accounting for more than two-thirds of the units to be con- structed. These units have the advantage of large process plant carrying capacity, storage capability, wide availability of secondhand tanker hulls, low prices on new hulls from Asian yards and relative- ly easy relocation from field to field.
Production spars will be the second favored production solution. They are particularly suited to deepwater. mid- sized fields that have access to pipeline infrastructure. A particular advantage of spars is their ability to accommodate dry trees, a major feature on fields with high paraffin content. TLPs, particular- ly the mini version, and production semis will make up the remainder of orders (see box 1, previous page).
Orders for shuttle tankers — A num- ber of fields in the ultra-deepwater sec- tor of the Gulf of Mexico are not within the economic reach of the existing pipeline infrastructure and shuttle

The Premier Name In
Galley Exhaust Hoods
Over 50 years of experience of providing exhaust hoods and canopies to the Navy and
Marine Industries.
The MCG3, water-wash exhaust hood offers many features and benefits: • Meets all the requirements of USPH • 95% grease extraction efficiency reducing grease build-up in the exhaust system • Wash system that automatically washes the extracted grease away • Low air volume design - 270 L/s/m • Optional C02 /Fire Solas fire damper mounted at duct collar
Water Sprays - Automatically come on in fire condition extinguishing fire within extractor Fail Safe Electric Damper Control -
Thermostat activated damper closes to fire cycle position in event of power loss. Resets to normal operating position when fan is restarted.
Concealed Sloped Gutter
Full length apron conceals sloped gutter and drain fittings providing architecturally "clean" appearance

Low Profile Design - - 350mm at front 575mm at rear low profile allows for use in low ceiling applications
Full Length Hinged Inspection Doors -
Provides easy access to all components, for inspection and service
Damper At Air Inlet Slot - Protects both the extraction chamber and the exhaust duct from fire
Three Position Damper - 1) Exhaust Cycle (as shown) 2) Wash Cycle Fan Off Period - Damper closes against inlet slot preventing conditioned air from going up exhaust system 3) Fire Cycle - Damper closes in direction of air flow against back wall eliminating possibility of damper opening due to high heat

These vessels will likely be Afra- max size, fitted with dynamic position- ing capability and priced in the area of $100 million. We expect the first orders for Gulf of Mexico shuttle tankers to be placed within the next 12 to 24 months, providing an interesting source of busi- ness for shipbuilders and equipment suppliers.

Seafloor Processing Technology
Project Launched
ABB, BP. Chevron and Kvaerner signed an alliance agreement to perform a collaborative study designed to address the challenges associated with advancing seafloor processing technolo- gy for deepwater oil and gas reserves.
The group will analyze how to develop standardized, modular, compact and remotely operated facilities that would sit on the seafloor and could reduce the operating difficulties, costs and environ- mental impacts of deep-sea production.
It is anticipated that the result of the study will yield the following benefits: • New cost effective production facili- ties that are removable and will have parts that can be reused or recycled; • Increased oil recovery over tradition- al field development options such as floating production storage offloading; • Spin off technologies in the area of oil and gas treatment that could improve the operation of conventional facilities.
