The Atlantic and Pacific satellites eventually died, but today Telenor still operates the orig- inal Indian Ocean Satellite, handed over from an Italian/Japanese collaboration that initially operated it. Repositioned, the satellite today is the world's oldest commercial satellite still in operation, providing a vital communication link to the South Pole.
