The first LNG carrier with electric propulsion will be delivered to Gaz de France at the end of 2004.

ALSTOM's compact electric propulsion systems constitute an innovative solution for all current and future LNG ships with either membrane or spherical tanks. This means significant improvements in terms of efficiency, ship operation and manoeuvrability.

Electric propulsion can be used with gas engines or turbines to burn boil-off gas or with any other power plant configuration. The gain in efficiency and reduced NOx emissions make for a more economical and environmentally friendly ship. The reliability of our electric systems provides a greater safety margin and since much of the routine maintenance work can be carried out at sea, less time is lost in terminal.
