14Maritime Reporter & Engineering News 37m Cat FerryIncat Crowther launched the m Catamaran Passenger Ferry Kili- manjaro III. Built by ichardson Devine Marine (DM), Kilimanjaro III is the third vessel from the de- signer builder partnership for Coastal Fast Ferries in Tanania, Africa. Kilimanjaro III was devel- oped following the success of Kili- manjaro I and Kilimanjaro II. IncatCrowther and DM were ap- proached by the operator to develop a larger, faster and more versatile vessel. The result is a 558 passenger vessel that is larger than any other vessel on the anibar Dar Es Salaam route, in addition to beingcapable of the more rugged offshore route to the Island of Pemba. Fur- thermore, Kilimanjaro III carriesmore passengers at less cost per- passenger to the operator, taking further advantage of the operation?s revenue-making potential. The main deck passenger deck features 29 economy class seats, with thosenearest the aft kiosk equipped withtables. The aft end of the main deck has been reconfigured with a larger luggage room, located directly adja-cent to the side crew ramps to speed up turn around. The upper deck has outdoor seats for 10 passengers. Amidships there is a first class cabin with seats. The sundeck has seats for a further 60 passengers. Kili-manjaro III features IncatCrowther?s new generation hull form, which offers increased effi- ciency and improved seakeeping. It is powered by a pair of Cummins KTA50 engines, each producing 10kW. oaded performance was recorded at over 1 knots, and will operate at 29 knots at MC. Previous to the Veneuelan general strike of 2002-200, PDVSA had a fully leased fleet, leaving it vulnerable in the crude oil loading and unloading op-erations. As a result the Veneuelan gov- ernment decided to acquire its own tugboat fleet from Cuba, placing an orderfor four tugboats with Caribbean Dry-dock Company (CDC), as part of a pro- curement arrangement made between theCuban and Veneuelan governments. On April 0 2011, CDC delivered the first tug KAIA which will be followed by UAIUEI in August, CUMANAOTO in December, with the last of the initial order CAIBE arriving in January 2012. The vessels are modern tugboats with a capacity of 5 tons of thrust and an output of ,00 hp. The tug- boat switchboards use Intelien NT Ma- rine controllers to supervise and monitorthe onboard genset. Intelien NT Marine provides a range of dedicated functions including automatic synchroniing, AMF function, Baseload, Import/Export, Peakshaving and Voltage PF control (AV). It also provides operators with a range of communication options that allows re- mote monitoring and access to usefuldata such as performance and event- based history log. CDC (Caribbean Dry-dock Company) has confirmed its satisfaction with Intelien NT?s per- formance and the service and support.DonJon Adds Tug On August 1, 2011, Donjon added the 200-P-class tug Caitlin Ann to its growing fleet to support the company?s dredging, marine salvage, bulk material transportation and marine demolitionservices. The addition of the Caitlin Ann increases the Donjon towboat fleet to 1 total vessels ranging from 1200 to 000 horsepower. In addition, Donjon also owns and operates five derrick barges with a maximum capacity of 1,000 tons,more than 0 deck and hopper barges, - 000-cubic yard split hull dump barges and numerous small vessels, floats and related marine craft.New Ferry for Fire Island ladding-earn Shipbuilding, Duclos Corporation has delivered a new high- speed ferry to Fire Island Ferries, Inc., onthe south shore of ong Island in New ork. The new 8-passenger, all-alu- minum, mono-hull ferry is a further re-finement of a vessel design concept optimied by Fire Island Ferries since the early 190s to operate on the 20-minute crossing on the shallow reat South Bay. With an emphasis on economy, effi- ciency, and quick turn-around, there are large passenger doors mid-ship on the main deck. There is indoor seating for 20 passengers on the main deck and seating for another 18 passengers on the upper deck. According to the builder, to ensure a smooth integration of the new vessel into a fleet of more than 20 ferries operated byFire Island Ferries, the design prioritywas the use of common components, sys- tems and critical arrangement dimensionsto aid in crew training and maintenance. The vessel is powered by three MTU Se- ries 60 diesel engines, delivering a total of 1800 bhp at 2100 rpm and connectedto F550 gear boxes, each turning Ni- BrAl propellers. In orderto demonstrate the practical use of abattery powered ferry within the estu- arial and coastal waters, a new green ship design will be developed. BMT was tasked to provide a design based on its design capability and its proven low resistance hull form technology which is currently in use in many low wash catamaran ferries. In addition to providing the fundamental naval archi- tecture design, BMT will develop the layout and styling of the vessel to pro- vide an elegant, yet simple design that reflects the vessel?s modern green cre- dentials and practical functionality as apassenger ferry. The design uses a catamaran hull form with VB batter- ies providing the power to the electric drive motors, which will achieve a 10 knot service speed. Solar cells are in- corporated into the roof structure to topup the batteries while the vessel is in use. Construction of the vessel will start by the middle of 2011 with trialsand delivery by mid- 2012.
