What is the relationship between your company and ShipConstructor? We are qualified representatives for Ship- Constructor and Maxsurf in Brazil.Could you explain to us the concept of ShipConstructor design software? ShipConstructor is an AutoCAD based shipbuilding CAD/CAM software suite that provides detail design and modeling tools for production engineering of ma-rine structures. ShipConstructor capturesall information relevant to the 3D design, manufacturing, maintenance, repair and refit of complex marine projects inside of a Marine Information Model (MIM). At the heart of the model is a single rela-tional database residing on a MicrosoftSQL Server that can be integrated with related business processes and applica- tions. ShipConstructor?s unique software architecture and AutoCAD foundation provide significant competitive advan- tages. What would you consider the software´s main competitive advantages? Shorter implementation time, speed toproficiency and lower maintenance/ad- ministration costs, complemented withfirst-class technical support. ShipCon- structor is built on top of AutoCAD, one of the world's most widely used CAD programs. The AutoCAD foundation pro- vides a population of skilled workers al- ready familiar with the basic tools and general look and feel of the software. Ad- ditionally, ShipConstructor is a suite of products targeted specifically at the ship- building and offshore industries. This basic philosophy behind the technology allows clients to directly interact with the 3D product model of a ship or offshore project in a manner that is natural fortheir business. Users with a solid founda- tion of AutoCAD skills and a decent un- derstanding of the industry are armedwith the tools required to quickly becomeproficient with the software. Competing products are widely recognized as re-quiring as much as 400% greater trainingto achieve the same level of proficiency. What are ShipConstructor´s range of ap- plications?ShipConstructor offers a complete pack- age covering all disciplines (structure, pipe, hvac, electrical, welding) for pro- duction detailing software as well as tight integration with Maxsurf Suite for initial design capability. Maxsurf is the most commonly used initial design suite inBrazil. How long has ShipConstructor been in the Brazilian market? The software has been used since 2008. Could you give us a short description of the scope of CAD based ship design soft-ware business market in Brazil? Currently the main activity we see in Brazil is project detailing to attend localworkshop skills as well as PETRO- BRAS/TRANSPETRO specifications and requirements. We see few yards ac- tually developing their own internal de- sign capability with most designs stillbeing imported from foreign design of-fices and technology partners. What is the current market demand for ShipConstructor?ShipConstructor is being widely adoptedby both Brazilian yards, engineering de-sign offices as well educational institu- tions. We have a specific educational package for technical colleges and uni- versities and are investing in helping them get up to speed to train studentsbest-practices in shipbuilding using 3D CAD/CAM software. What is the current market demand for your specific services (Sincronia)? We see strong demand both for ShipCon- structor training and consultancy services as well as our PLM/Document Manage-ment side of the business. For the latter the demand is much wider covering other segments such as onshore, industrial and nuclear plant.October 2011www.marinelink.com 43Shipconstructor Window.
