Phase 4 is the continuous improvement phase. Continuous improvement is a core principle of the SEA program and appliesin many different ways. In this case, con- tinuous improvement refers to ongoing skill enhancement and support for careerprogression for each employee trained using the SEA process at BC Ferries. Inthis way, the SEA process is not a one- time or periodic event which comes into play only when an employee is to be cleared for a new position, new vessel or new terminal. Instead, the SEA process is a part of the employee?s continual pro- fessional development, supporting the employee and ensuring professional and safe practices throughout their career atBC ferries.LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (LMS) SUPPORTAll aspects of the SEA process are sup-ported by a web-based learning manage-ment system for the maritime industrycalled MarineLMS (referred to as ?SEAWeb? at BC Ferries). This is a web and paper-based system which has been cus- tomized to deliver learning materials spe- cific to BC Ferries' vessels, routes and jobs. It also supports written examina- tions and provides tracking and analytics for performance monitoring and contin-uous improvement. The system is used at BC Ferries to:Deliver all learning materials (which are numerous and sophisticated) whichare part of the SEA process.Manage the maintenance and ensure the currency and correctness of those materials.Objectively deliver and automatically grade all assessments (tests), either on-line or on-paper as needed.Provide metrics which allow BC Fer- ries to ?measure? the training processMR Nov.11 # 9 (65-73):MR Template 11/2/2011 3:25 PM Page 71
