movers, power generation, electrical dis- tribution and fixed or variable speed drives, including motors for propulsion, thrusters and specialist applications. The company?s expertise in ship power and propulsion systems ranges from themanufacture and supply of power gener- ation systems to integrated full electric propulsion systems and, increasingly, hy- brid propulsion systems.Synapsis Command BridgeRaytheon Anschütz developed a solu- tion for OPV?s, smaller Naval and Coast Guard vessels. In Paris, the Synapsis Command Bridge was launched as a combination of commercial-off-the-shelf navigation with Command & Control ca- pabilities to a new, homogeneous bridge system. The Synapsis Command Bridge aims to provide a solution that not only includes the Synapsis Integrated Naviga- tion capabilities but also transfers en- hanced Command & Control (C2)capabilities from the Raytheon Anschütz? SmartBlue surveillance system to a new sea-based application. ?The Command Bridge comes as ascalable ?off-the-shelf? solution which is standardized to save unnecessary non-re- curring engineering costs while at thesame time remaining flexible enough to accommodate different sensors and weapon systems appropriate for different missions,? said Thomas Lehmann, Sys- tem Engineer, Raytheon Anschütz. ?Smaller vessels such as OPV?s and Fast Attack Crafts without requirements for adedicated combat information center canbe easily equipped to handle a variety of threat scenarios and missions efficiently and effectively.? The bridge system is equipped withmultifunctional workstations that unify the radar, ECDIS, conning, and C2 to sin- gle service oriented applications with astandardized user look and feel for mon-itoring, control, data and alert manage-ment. Whereas the tasks of radar, ECDIS (or WECDIS), and conning display are essential for navigation and IMO com- pliance, the C2 including electro-opticsensor (EOS) and weapon control signif-icantly enhance the capabilities of thenew system solution. The Synapsis Command Bridge alsoincludes flexible interfaces for rapid in- tegration of sensors to detect, track and identify contacts as a premise for militarysituational awareness and surveillance re- quirements. This helps to realize cus- tomer-specific solutions and to add, replace or remove individual sub-systems and components - such as small target trackers, 2D radars, ESMs or sonars ? with changing operational needs.A good example for the requirement of a Command Bridge is the SeaStriker 22, which was recently launched by ship- builder RiverHawk Fast Sea Frames of November 2012www.marinelink.com 65Rolls-Royce announced a new teamfocused solely on Naval Ship Design. One design: a 9,000 to 25,000 dwtreplenishment ship, based on the Rolls-Royce Enviroship concept.
