What makes this the most firesafe ship afloat? JOHNS-MANVILLE INCOMBUSTIBLE MARINE PRODUCTS FOR BUILT-IN PROTECTION AT SEA-THAT'S WHAT. Safety of life at sea is the duty of every J-M marine product. Each adds an unseen safety factor to fire-safe ship construction because it helps reduce the amount of combustible material aboard. The best known of these products are Marinite®-23 and 36 divisional bulkheads and linings. These incom-bustible panels are designed to contain and control shipboard fire within a limited zone wherever they are used?staterooms, cabins, public rooms or crew quar-ters. Lightweight Marinite-23 panels can be used with metal, veneered with decorative melamine plastics or asbestos-cement veneers. Marinite-36 was designed pri-marily for use in %"thickness as a single divisional bulk-head. It is available prepared for painting or veneered with a variety of decorative finishes?Colored Marine Veneer or melamines. J-M Marine Veneer is a strong, hard, flexible material in thin sheets. It is incombustible and can be veneered to Marinite panels or used alone for sheathing ceilings or curved areas. Dekeran® is a ceiling panel with a baked-on inorganic finish. It resists stain and abrasion, and meets U.S. Coast Guard requirement 164.009. For sound-absorbing, fire-resistant overheads, J-M offers Marine Acoustical Units. These attractive units are available prepared for painting or with Colored Marine Veneer facing, or as Dekeran. J-M Marine Huilboard is a lightweight fiber glass in-sulation, available plain or faced with treated glass fiber cloth. Incombustible Huliboard-SG meets Navy specification MIL-l-742 and U.S. Coast Guard require-ment 164.009. For maximum thermal and acoustical efficiency, In-combustible Microlite® is recommended. Strong, resilient and light in weight, this soft, fiberglass blanket-type prod-uct can be used wherever back-up insulation is needed. To insulate the deckhead and shell, incombustible BX-Spintex® may be used. This semirigid fiber felt meets U.S. Coast Guard requirements as a general structural insulation (paragraph 164.007). The ideal sheathing for reefer spaces is Reeferite®. These incombustible panels are composed of a light-gauge aluminum core faced on both sides with J-M Ma-rine Veneer. The U.S. Public Health Service gives unre-stricted approval to the use of odorless Reeferite for re-frigerated ship stores and cargo holds, storage spaces, galleys, pantries and other food-preparation areas.
