H. Patrick Devery

H. Patrick Devery, a veteran of 30 years in the steamship indus- try, has joined TTT Ship Agen- cies, Inc., New York, N.Y., as a vice president. His primary re- sponsibility will be supervision of

Star Lines, which recently named

TTT as its ship agency.

Prior to joining TTT, Mr.

Devery served as operations vice president and Northeast regional manager of Pacific Far East Line.

Previously, he had served as gen- eral manager, Mediterranean serv- ice, and as manager of equipment control worldwide for American

Export Lines.

Following service in the U.S.

Navy in World War II, Mr. Devery started his career with Grace Line in its financial department.

Basil Finn

Basil Finn has been appointed director of sales in Houston,

Texas, by Hansen and Tidemann,

Inc., ship agents and chartering brokers.

In his new position, Mr. Finn will oversee the sales and market- ing efforts for all the transporta- tion services represented by H&T in the Gulf area.

A native of New York, Mr. Finn brings to H&T a background of more than 15 years in shipping and transportation, and a knowl- edge of markets on the East, West and Gulf Coasts.

Mr. Finn, a graduate of St.

John's University in New York, has also done postgraduate studies at several California colleges.

Hansen and Tidemann, Inc., with more than 40 years in the transportation industry, main- tains a network of 21 offices throughout North America, and represents a variety of transpor- tation services. Gulf Stevedoring is an affiliated company.

Proceedings of the International

Symposium on Fracture Mechan- ics to be held at the George Wash- ington University, September 11- 13, 1978, will be available through the University Press of Virginia.

This symposium, sponsored by the

Office of Naval Research, presents an overview of fracture problems in ship and aircraft structures, as well as an international review of the state-of-the-art in many areas of fracture mechanics research.

Included are results of both theo- retical and experimental studies of fracture and fatigue in a variety of materials and structures. Var- ious aspects of fracture are dis- cussed for composites, polymers, ceramics and metallic materials under wide ranges of loading and environment. Fracture mechanics technology is reviewed through fracture case studies, discussions of recent advances in nondestruc- tive flaw detection, and applica- tions to nuclear reactors, gas tur- bines, and rocket motors.
