St. Louis Ship Delivers 6,000-HP Towing/Supply

Boat To Gulf Fleet Marine

Richard M. Currence, presi- dent of Gulf Fleet Marine Corpo- ration, New Orleans, La., has an- nounced the addition of Gulf Fleet

No. 65, a 190-foot by 40-foot by 16- foot 6,000-hp class towing/supply vessel, which is powered by twin

EMD 12 645-E7C diesel engines through twin Reinjes WAV 2740, 4:1 ratio reduction gears. The ves- sel is equipped with two 100.75- inch I.D. Kort Nozzles with twin four-bladed stainless-steel 100-inch- diameter wheels. She is equipped with a bow thruster powered by a 500 horsepower GM 12V-71 engine.

The vessel's towing/anchor-han- dling package consists of an Inter- con DW200 double drum Waterfall towing winch with a 350,000-pound line pull at stall with capacity for 3,000 feet of 2-inch towing cable on each drum. Her stern roller has a 5-foot diameter with an 8-foot live section and center line groove.

Her bollard pull is certified at 150,000 pounds.

The Gulf Fleet No. 65 has a 100- foot by 31-foot clear deck area with maximum capacity for deck cargo at 670 long tons. Her under- deck capacities include drill water at 128,515 U.S. gallons, fuel oil at 139,290 U.S. gallons, potable water at 10,555 U.S. gallons and lube oil at 3,030 U.S. gallons.

The vessel has six bulk tanks with maximum capacity of 6,320 cubic feet and she may carry drill- ing fluids including liquid mud, calcium chloride and calcium bro- mide up to 1,524 barrels.

The Gulf Fleet No. 65 was built by St. Louis Ship, a division of

Pott Industries, and represents the first of four vessles in this class to be delivered to Gulf Fleet by St.

Louis Ship within the next 10 months.

Propellers. Lips Propellers is the

U.S. subsidiary of Lips United, a

Netherlands-based international organization specializing in the manufacture and repair of large fixed and controllable-pitch pro- pellers and propulsion equipment.

According to Robert F. Kress, president of Lips Propellers, oper- ating and administrative func- tions will be relocated to the com- pany's East Coast facility and new headquarters at 3617 Koppens Way in Chesapeake. West Coast opera- tions remain in Oakland, Calif., and Portland, Ore. Gregory V.

Cole is the newly appointed gen- eral manager for the West Coast operations.
