Canadian Pacific Acquires
Cast
Canadian Pacific Ltd. announced that it had reached agreement in principle to acquire the container shipping business of The Cast Group
Ltd. as a going concern. Comple- tion of the transaction is subject to a due diligence review and the con- sent of the relevant regulatory au- thorities.
Closing is expected to occure on or before October 31.
The acquisition will evidently strengthen Canadian Pacific's po- sition in the North Atlantic con- tainer trade, where it is already a significant force through its owner- ship of Canada Maritime.
Canada Maritime Limited is a
Bermudian-registered shipping company, 100 percent owned by
Canadian Pacific Ltd., a Canadian transportation, energy, real estate and industrial group.

Carnival To Build First 100,000-Ton Sh
Carnival Cruise Lines announced that it will build the world's first 100,000-gross-registered-ton ship, to be built by Italy's Fincantieri Ship- yard. The not-yet-named ship is scheduled for delivery in the fall of 1996.
Originally announced as a 95,000- grt vessel last year, CCL's spokes- man Bob Dickinson said the esti size was based on the gener rangement plan and other pr nary engineering documents, then, we've fleshed out the spec the ship in much greater deta based on the information cur available, the final tonnage isc\ to exceed the 100,000 mark."

Doubles Towboat Fleet
Coastal Towing, Inc., Houston, has acquired a fleet of towboats and double-skinned inland tank barges from Ingram Ohio Barge Company, a subsidiary of Ingram Industries Inc., of Nashville.
