Hybrid High Voltage

Electro-Optical Connector

Birns developed a Class

A Hybrid high voltage electro-optical connector, as part of its BIRNS

Millennium Series 3T size. This configuration has two multimode optical fibers, eight 2.5Kv conductors, and four 600v conductors; other configurations are avail- able. The Birns Hybrid can carry high voltages (e.g. to power the sensor package), thus, a single connector can provide high-voltage power to the device, and also carry sensor signals back. Users will benefit from high data rates -- and the reduction in cost and system complexity that results from using a single cable/connector.
