The Case The Case Ocean turbulence has emerged as a key component in under- standing climate change and the harnessing of tidal energy. Rockland ScientiÞ c has become an expert and innovator of oce- anic turbulence measurement, making it the foremost supplier of turbulence instrumentation. The Company The Company Rockland ScientiÞ c designs and manufactures high-accuracy instrumentation for oceanographic research, focussing on sen-sors and methods for turbulence measurements. Ocean turbu- lence is a key area of interest because it inß uences climate, greenhouse gas deposition, and pollutant dispersal. Turbulence also signiÞ cantly affects the efÞ ciency and endurance of tidal power generation facilities. Recently, RSI has formed a strategic partnership with JFE Advan- tech, a major oceanographic instrumentation manufacture in Japan. The Agreement involves technology transfer, manufacturing licens- ing, distribution, and joint development of new sensor technology. The Tech The Tech Rockland ScientiÞ c offers a wide range of turbulence mea- surement systems and sensors for operation in the upper ocean and down to 6000 m. The product lineup falls into three ma- jor categories: vertical proÞ ling instruments; modular sensor packages for deployments on AUV, gliders and other autono- mous platforms; and customized measurement solutions for science, engineering, and security applications. The vertical proÞ lers come in a variety of sizes that can be de- ployed in a range of environments, from lakes and coastal zones to deep ocean areas. The ß ag-ship proÞ ler is the VMP-6000 proÞ ler, a completely autonomous proÞ ling robot that can probe turbulence levels in the deep ocean down to depths of 6000 m. The modular MicroRider system is successfully deployed and used on AUV platforms such as HydroidÕs Remus 100, 600 and 6000 AUVs. The most versatile application of the MicroRider is the integration with the Teledyne Webb Slocum glider, which makes it possible to conduct turbulence measure- ments autonomously for many weeks. The Case The Case ROMOR is an innovator and solutions provider for all re- quirements related to the subsea marketplace. ROMOR offers a unique mooring solution called the C-ROM Compact Re- coverable Ocean Mooring which provides reliable and sim- plicity to clients and their mooring requirements. The Company The Company ROMOR Ocean Solutions provides advanced technical ser- vices and integrated instrumentation solutions for the ocean surveying and oceanographic industries. With more than 25 years of experience, ROMOR has the capability to bring to- gether the technical knowledge and expertise with specialized instrumentation to provide a complete solution that has been customized to satisfy the clientÕs application and require- ments. The Tech The Tech The ROMOR C-ROM is an oceanographic subsurface moor- ing solution that offers a reliable and compact design to moor- ing and recovering oceanographic instrumentation. The C- ROM and C-ROM Plus units consist of a subsurface ß otation collar mounting assembly for instrumentation that provides approximately 80 & 105 lbs (36 & 48 kg) positive buoyancy starting at depths of 750m, progressing to full ocean depth. The ß otation collar encloses a customer speciÞ ed acoustic release as well as the client speciÞ ed instrument(s) that can be accommodated within the dimensions of the design. As an option, the C-ROM SeaRecovery Anchor Retrieval Roto- Drum can be included with the C-ROM to enable recovery of the mooring anchor once the mooring has been released and surfaced. Other options such as real time integrated acoustic modem systems, RF and ß asher beacons, and deeper models are available.
