POWERING UP

FOR ENDURANCE

Choice of power source for vehicles is isn’t always straight forward. While electric vehicles are dominating growth in the domestic transport market, as an alternative to fossil fuel, hydrogen fuel-cell based vehicles are also out there, albeit in smaller numbers and broadly focused towards heavy duty vehicles.

Power density, range, the ability to refuel and the cost and ease of access to fuel sources (as well as their climate impact) are all factors at play. Most of these factors are also at play in the autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) space, especially for larger vehicles targeted at 1,000 km plus excursions.
