V2M-8 requests permission to come aboard. Permission granted. Schematic arrangement of a V2M-8 welded wall marine boiler. Boilers of this type are in fleet use aboard LKA class ships. The V2M-8 boiler has important design features for high reliability: A completely water cooled furnace for conservative heat absorption and long fur-nace life. Welded wall construction means no fur-nace refractory and elimination of a major maintenance item. Top firing into the symmetrical V2M-8 furnace provides optimum gas distribution and high combustion efficiency. The vertical superheater means virtual elimination of slagging and fouling of gas passages. Coupled with retractable soot blowers, wide range burners, and in-line tube banks, these features add up to high reliability and low maintenance, giving maximum availa-bility. Now in the fleet,V2M-8's represent the latest in marine boiler technology. For more information, call or write Com-bustion Engineering, Inc., Marine Boiler Operations, Windsor, Conn. 06095.
