World-Wide Marine Orders Six

Supertankers For $200 Million

From Japanese Shipbuilders

Y.K. Pao, internationally known shipping magnate and governing director of World-

Wide (Shipping), Ltd., was honored on July 6 by the Deputy Mayor of Osaka City, Japan,

Yashushi Oshima, in a specially arranged cere- mony at the city's Municipal Office during which he was presented with the key to the city.

The occasion preceded the launching later on the same day of the 25,000-dwt bulk car- rier Eastern Wave for the Eastern Asia Navi- gation Company at the yard of the Osaka

Shipbuilding Co. Ltd.

Sponsor at the launching ceremony was Mrs.

N.A.S. Mills, wife of the manager of the

Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corpora- tion's Hong Kong office. This is one of the

IS similar size bulk carriers so far ordered by the World-Wide Shipping Group from

Osaka Shipbuilding Co., all of which are due for completion in the next three years, and the key award to Mr. Pao was in recognition of the Group's significant contribution to

Osaka City's ship exports.

Following the ceremony, Mr. Pao an- nounced that his Group has recently placed another huge block order with major Japanese shipbuilders for the construction of six more supertankers with a total deadweight of ap- proximately 1.5 million tons at an aggregate cost of close to $200 million. All are sched- uled for completion within the period between 1974 and 1975, and the following is a summing up of these mammoth ships:
