Ship in 1982. The third ship in the series, the Charles Carroll, has been subcontracted by Sun to the Quincy division of General

Dynamics and is scheduled for delivery in 1983.

Heisler Named Comptroller

For Hoffert Marine

Billy G. Heisler has been named comptroller of Hoffert Marine Inc., according to Paul E. Hoffert, pres- ident of the Jacksonville, Fla., company, a leading supplier of deck and engine equipment and services for Naval and commer- cial vessels. Hoffert Marine also has offices in Nutley, N.J., serv- ing the Port of New York/New

Jersey, Norfolk, Va., and Hou- ston.

Prior to joining Hoffert Marine,

Mr. Heisler served in the finan- cial structures of such Jackson- ville firms as Farmbest Foods,

Inc., Florida Rock Industries, and

Progressive Driver Services, Inc.

Shipbuilding Training

Canada's major shipyards and the federal government recently signed an agreement to acceler- ate training programs for skilled tradesmen to meet an expected critical shortage. The agreement was signed by employment and immigration minister Lloyd Ax- worthy and Ted Jones and Henry

Walsh of the Canadian Shipbuild- ing and Ship Repairing Associ- ation.

The agreement is said to be unique in the Canadian shipyard industry by providing for coordi- nated and cooperative planning among companies—with govern- ment assistance—in assessing and forecasting both current and fu- ture manpower needs of the in- dustry as a whole. It also places stress on providing more work at all levels in shipyards for women and minorities.

Mr. Jones, senior vice president of Burrard Yarrows Corporation and chairman of the association, said: "Canadian industry must do something now to train more young Canadians in trade skills.

If we don't treat this problem se- riously, we're going to find in the next five to 10 years there just won't be enough skilled trades- men available and our industries could be in deep trouble." The shipyard industry in Canada em- ploys about 14,000, and the ma- jority are skilled trades.

The agreement provides for stepped-up programs to upgrade skills of persons now working in the shipyard industry, and to provide employment and career opportunities for other Canadians —including plans to achieve equal opportunity for women and mi- norities.
