Good First Half

Of 1991

HMD has customers all over the world, including Eastern Bloc coun- tries and the USSR. In the first half of 1991, HMD repaired a total of 217 vessels, an 11.2 percent increase compared with the corresponding period in 1990.

HMD started repair business with the USSR in November 1988 by dry- docking the ship MTV Khudozhnik

Kraynev from Far Eastern Shipping

Co. (FESCO). Following that first drydocking in 1988, 96 Soviet- flagged ships were repaired or con- verted by HMD over the next two years.

In addition, HMD recently landed its first award for repair of a Chi- nese-flagged 120,000-dwt bulk/con- tainer ship, the MTV Tao Jiang Hai, from Chinese Ocean Shipping Co. (COSCO), the world's largest state- run shipping company. The ship- ping line operates 620 vessels.

HMD is now heavily booked with various jobs, to the extent that its brisk business prevents it from ac- commodating all the repair orders coming from shipowners.
