Thermoset Composite For Marine

Applications Available From Orkot

Orkot Composites offers TLM Marine specialized fabric reinforced thermoset com- posite for marine conditions. The use of TLM marine in water and grease lubricat- ed rudder bearings, water lubricated propeller shaft bearings, stabilizer fin bear- ings, water lubricated stern bearings, deck machinery bearings, steering gear bear- ings, rudder stock and pintle bushings, waterjet bearings and slipway pads is approved by major classification societies. TLM Marine is reportedly suitable for use in demanding sea water environments, including safety critical applications.

The reported benefits of this composite include: virtually zero swell in seawater; high compressive and impact strength; low friction enhanced by solid lubricants; and the absence of toxic materials. Deck applications include hatch cover wear pads; fair lead and davit bearings; stern rollers; winch and windless bearings; pul- ley blocks; and door and spherical bearings. In addition to below water applica- tions, Orkot TLM Marine is also used in bowthrusters, mine detector bearings, shaft seal insulating rings and housings, towed array bearings and other restricted naval applications. In submarines, TLM reportedly provides excellent performance in the bearings for steering gear, bowcap, periscope, communications mast, weapons handling gear, sonar equipment and guide strips located in the torpedo tubes.
