Qualifications:

We require a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Ocean, Marine, Aerospace, or Naval Architecture.

Demonstrable experience in any of the following areas is highly desirable:

Potential flow analysis software (e.g., VSAERO, USAERO) Pro/Engineer modeling software

CFD grid generators (e.g., GRIDGEN, GridPro)

Use of UNIX operating system based computer workstations

Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute

FIRST ASSISTANT ENGINEER

The First Assistant Engineer assists with the safe operation of the vessel as it pertains to the mechanical functions required to perform all normal research activities. Under the direction of the Chief

Engineer, the individual maintains the vessel and keeps equipment in top condition at all times. Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on all equipment, including cranes and winches. Provides standby for engine room emergencies while ship is underway and assists with inspections of engine room. Runs mains and generators, and participates in tether watch rotation. Participates in the deployment and recovery of CTD rosette/sediment traps. Perform duties of Deckhand, as required.

Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent and 3-5 years related experience. U.S.C.G. Third Assistant Engineer or Limited

Chief Engineer (diesel) license required. Must display proficiency in operating and maintaining a variety of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems. Must be able and willing to work in a hazardous marine environment, and work up to one month continuously at sea between port calls. Must have excellent communication skills and be able to work with diverse groups of people.
