Aquamaster-Rauma 8. B. Technik accordance with OPA 90.

The vessel is a single- decked, single screw chemi- cal tanker with a double hull.

It contains 12 epoxy-coated cargo tanks. The cargo sys- tem has stainless steel piping and deep well pumps.

Wartsila supplied the main and auxiliary power plants. The propulsion sys- tem consists of a 4,800 kW diesel engine driving a four- blade Kamewa controllable pitch propeller through a Val- met reduction gear. A single 588 kW hydraulically driven

Kamewa bowthruster enhances maneuverability.

The vessel is classed to

Lloyd's Register highest class: +100A1 chemical tanker. It will be manned by a crew of 18 and has accom- modations for 20 persons. "While the Dannebrog chemical tankers were chal- lenging projects for ASI, we have gained valuable experi- ence in completing a very sophisticated vessel. In par-

Shipbuilder Alabama Shipyard, Inc., USA

Vessel name Amalienborg

Vessel type Chemical Tanker

Owner/Operator Dannebrog Rederi A/S, Denmark

The first of two chemical tankers built by

Alabama Shipyard for Dannebrog Rederi A/S of

Rungsted Kyst, Denmark was delivered April 1, 1998. This delivery is significant for many rea- sons, first and foremost for the technical quali- ty incorporated throughout the high-value ship.

But this particular ship equals far more than the sum of its steel, machinery, electronics and coatings, as it represents the completion of the first self-propelled ocean-going vessel built for export by an American shipyard in over 40 years. "Alabama Shipyard, Inc. (ASI) is the only

U.S. shipyard dedicated to commercial new con- struction. This is the primary difference between ASI and our competitors that combine either military and commercial construction or repair and new buildings," said Mark Asbury, president, Alabama Shipyard.
