New Navigation Training Center

Northrop Grumman’s Sperry Marine business unit opened a new ship navi- gation training center in Char- lottesville, Va., to provide a wide range of navigation courses, including com- puter-controlled classroom training and a full ship’s bridge simulator, giving students hands-on training under real- istic scenarios.

Bodin Maritime School’s

New Engine Room Simulator

Kongsberg Maritime's Simulation divi- sion signed a contract with Bodin Mar- itime School for an upgrade of its existing engine room simulator. The existing engine room simulator will be extended to include an addi- tional full mission engine room simu- lator featuring

Kongsberg’s Big View. Bodin Mar- itime School will offer eight unique en- gine simulator models to support a wide selection of courses. The upgrade is set to be functional by August 2011.

Overhaul Energizes Houston Center

SCI’s Houston Center for Maritime

Education’s 10-year-old simulators re- quired updates to remain on the cutting edge of training. According to Eric K.

Larsson, Ph.D., Director of the Insti- tute’s Center for Maritime Education, the major upgrades SCI has made to its

Houston simulators, “supply mariners with sophisticated and adaptable sim- ulation possibilities.” New simulators in Houston incorporate the latest tech- nology, and new geographical data- bases for the area surrounding the Port.
