The Fantasy, one of three 70,000-grt cruise ships being built for Carnival Cruise Lines, under construction at Wartsila Marine's Turku shipyard. 70,000-GRT Superliner Takes Shape
At Wartsila Marine's Turku Yard
Circle 245 on Reader Service Card
The first of three giant 70,000-grt
Superliners, the Fantasy, under construction at the Turku, Finland, shipyard of Wartsila Marine Indus- tries, for Carnival Cruise Lines,
Miami, Fla., has been launched and is nearing completion.
The 855-foot, 2,600-passenger vessel is one of the most expensive ships ever built. The Fantasy and her sister ships, the Ecstacy and the
Sensation, are being constructed under a $600-million contract. The
Ecstasy is expected to join the CCL fleet in 1990 and the Sensation in 1991.
One of the spectacular design fea- tures of the Fantasy and her sisters is a six-deck atrium.
The Grand Spectrum was con- ceived by Miami architect Joe
Farcus, who was involved in the design of the interiors of Carnival's first three Superliners, the Holiday,
Jubilee and Celebration. On the
Fantasy, Mr. Farcus has created an atrium which rises six full decks, crowned by a skylight. 18 Maritime Reporter/Engineering News
