SEEMP Implementation & ManagementBIMCO, Fathom Debut Step-by-Step GuideAs shipowners around the world struggle to keep in compliance with emerging emission rules and adminis- tration, a pair of industry leaders teamto provide solutions. BIMCO last month announced the release of ?The Step-by-Step SEEMP Manual? in association with Fathom. The manual, which can be utilised as aship?s official Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP), has beendeveloped to enable ship owners to plan, manage and document the energy effi- ciency performance of their ships. SEEMP becomes mandatory from Jan-uary 2013.SEEMP, designed by the IMO to en- courage best practices for the fuel effi- cient operation of ships, is a requirementfor all owners and operators of ships over 400 gross tons (GT) to detail meas- ures that are being implemented to re-duce fuel consumption and thus lower Greenhouse Gases and other emissions. ?BIMCO supported the SEEMP regu- lation to enable ship-owners to better optimize their energy consumption,? said Lars Robert Pedersen, Deputy Sec-retary General, BIMCO. ?We do not be- lieve, however, there is necessarily any need to pay substantial amounts to thirdparties to prepare SEEMPs. ?The Step-by-Step SEEMP Manual?gives ship-owners and operators a one- stop solution that allows them to easily create ship-specific plans in-house. It is our view that a simple SEEMP imple- mented effectively is better than a com- plicated document that may not befollowed.? The manual includes clear templateson an accompanying CD which can be populated and then printed off to make up a ship specific SEEMP program. These are placed at the front of the ele-gant hard-back binder containing the manual and together these act as the of-ficial SEEMP. The manual is designed as a simpleway to ensure compliance with impend- ing regulation whilst giving the poten- tial for real benefits to be gained from the implementation of the plan. ?TheStep-by-Step SEEMP Manual? is avail- able online from fathom- ctech.com/guide/bimco-step-by-step-seemp-manual/7/ at a price of GBP 130,MR#11 (114--121):MR Template 11/6/2012 12:00 PM Page 118
