CIP,” said Stephen Westerling Greer,
Global Business Manager for the Pure-
Ballast range. “When Alfa Laval launched PureBal- last commercially in 2006, it was into a market full of uncertainty. Little was clear about the real-world challenges of meeting the IMO Ballast Water Man- agement Convention, to say nothing of when it would take effect.”
During the early development of
PureBallast, Alfa Laval aimed to meet the IMO legislation without affecting vessel operations. Having achieved this, the company changed focus to consider the practical requirements of ballast water management systems, in- cluding the development of explosion- proof and energy-ef? cient systems. The latest PureBallast systems are designed to achieve ef? cient space usage and power management while providing breadth of capacity. Alfa Laval is now moving its focus from vessel require- ments to business needs. “Neither the operations on board nor the vessel’s area of operations should be affected,” said Westerling Greer. 56 Maritime Reporter & Engineering News • MAY 2015
