Diesel Engine Specialist-PS

Services (overhauls, diagnoses and repairs) diesel engines, large pumps and ancillary machinery and equipment at all District pumping stations. Ensures that overhauled and repaired machinery and equipment is operating at peak perform- ance. Assists with the installation of machinery and equipment according to layout plans, blueprints and drawings/sketches. Assist in aligning machines and equip- ment using hoists, hand and power tools, squares, rules, micrometers and dial indi- cators. Overtime will be required based on weather and/or environmental condi- tions. Due to the District's response role before, during, and after major storm events and in the total scope of emergency management, this position may be, at times, required to provide work support before, during, and after major storm events and emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declared emergen- cies. High School graduate or an equivalency diploma and vocational training in basic diesel engine repair required. Four (4) years experience overhauling, diag- nosing and repairing stationary diesel engines including servicing ancillary mechanical equipment such as pumps, air compressors, and generators. Factory training on stationary diesel engines: Catepillar, Detroit Diesel, Cummins, and
Fairbanks-Morse. Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class B is required to oper- ate trailers with a capacity of 5 tons or less. Demonstrates competency in basic water skills including the ability to swim and respond safety in an aquatic emer- gency. Position works over water, close to water, or partially submerged in water (knee-high) when performing inspection and repair work. This position is subject to random drug testing.
