The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of
Columbia University, as the operator of the
National Science Foundation’s R/V M. G.
Langseth, is seeking to fill the position of
Director, Office of Marine Operations (OMO) at the Research Scientist or Senior Re- search Scientist level.
The successful candidate will lead and over- see the technical, operational and educa- tional programs associated with the OMO and communications to the international scientific community. The position will in- volve coordination with governmental agen- cies, UNOLS, and with research activities undertaken at the Lamont-Doherty Earth
Observatory.
To apply for the Research Scientist posi- tion: Ph. D and 6 or more years of experi- ence in marine geology and geophysics or related field;
To apply for the Senior Research Scientist position: Ph. D and 10 or more years of ex- perience in marine geology and geophysics or related field.
For both positions: superior oral and writ- ten communication skills, experience with a broad array of research topics in the geo- sciences, familiarity with marine exploration technologies, and seagoing experience are desirable. Successful applicant may partic- ipate on R/V Langseth and other research cruises. International travel may be re- quired. Appointment level and salary will be commensurate with experience.
