McDermott Names Howson To Succeed Cunningham As Chief Operating Officer

James E. Cunningham, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of McDermott International, Inc., recently announced that the board of directors has formally designated Robert E. Howson, president and chief operating officer of McDermott, as his successor. Mr.

Cunningham will reach retirement age this year, and will continue to serve the company as a member of its board of directors after retirement.

Mr. Howson will be officially elected chairman of the board and chief executive officer at the meeting of the board of directors to be held following the annual meeting of shareholders on August 9, 1988.

Mr. Howson assumed his present responsibilities during 1987. He has served on McDermott's board of directors since March 1981 and has been president and chief operating officer of the McDermott Marine Construction unit since that time.

He was named president and chief operating officer of the Babcock & Wilcox unit in 1986 and chief operating officer of the McDermott International trading unit in mid- 1987.

Mr. Cunningham has served as chairman of the board and chief executive officer of McDermott International since 1979.
