U.S., Canada To Conduct Marine Transport Study

An agreement has been signed recently by representatives of the Transportation D e p a r t m e n t s of the U.S. and Canadian Governments for cooperation in the field of marine transportation systems and technology research.

The two initial areas of investigation will be marine fire hazards, and p r o p e l l e r protection techniques for ships navigating in ice.

The new accord will provide for an exchange of personnel and information, joint projects, and assessment of marine transportation systems and technology. The agreement is in the form of an addendum to a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 1970 by the U.S. Secretary of Transportation and the Canadian Minister of Transportation concerning research and development in transportation.
