Bulk Carrier Launched At Italcantieri Yard

Italcantieri's Castellamare di Stabia shipyard recently launched the 49,000-dwt bulk carrier Serafina F., one of four sister ships Italcantieri is building for the Ferruzzi Group-Ravenna. Two are building at Castellamare and two at the Genova-Sestri yard.

The vessel is designed with a bulbous bow and transom stern.

The Serafina F. is powered by a B&W 7L67 GFC two-stroke diesel engine developing a maximum continuous output of 18,000 bhp at 119 rpm and a service speed of 16.4 knots.

Italcantieri's Monfalcone yard is currently outfitting an 81,400- dwt bulkcarrier, Purple Planet, for Evansmore Corp. of Bermuda.

Designed to transport dry bulk in all holds and ore in alternate holds, the ship has a double bottom from the aft bulkhead of the engine room to the fore bulkhead of hold No. 1. The ship is powered by a GMT B780.7 twostroke diesel engine directly connected to the shaft. The diesel develops a maximum continuous output of 17,500 bhp for a service speed of 16.8 knots.

A keel-laying ceremony was held at the Genova-Sestri yard for a 24,900-dwt petroleum products tanker able to carry four different types of cargo simultaneously.

Building for SNAM S.p.A. of Milan, the tanker will be powered by a GMT B 600.6 diesel driving a fixed-blade propeller.
