AAM Launches Duke University RV

All American Marine (AAM) completed construction and launched an aluminum research and survey vessel for Duke University. The Duke University Marine Lab (DUML) is a hydrofoil-assisted catamaran and is an ex- emplary arrangement from Teknicraft Design. AAM is the exclusive builder of Teknicraft Designs in North America.

Based upon two successful Teknicraft Design vessels AAM built for NOAA, this patented hydrofoil-assisted hull de- sign is proven to have industry-leading low-wake wash en- ergy and fuel economy. The vessel was procured as part of an $11 million gift for the construction and operation of a new state-of-the-art research vessel that will expand teach- ing, research and outreach capabilities at the Marine Lab.

Cummins X15-Powered Lobster Boats

When Steve Corkum of Yarmouth Sea Products couldn’t ? nd a yard prepared to build 15 lobster boats in a single or- der, he started his own. Bayview Marine recently launched the ? rst in the 15-boat series and is pleased with the initial performance. The hull is designed for maximum work- ing space and stowage for lobster or crab traps. The ? rst of the series of ? berglass vessels performed well on trials.

Propulsion is provided by a six-cylinder Cummins X15 diesel rated for 500 HP at 1800 RPM. The boats are the ? rst commercial ? shing application of this engine and will have an upgraded Sea-Pro Filter system to allow extended fuel service maintenance, as well as a ? rst of its kind F.l.T.
