MacGregor Describes Cost Saving Hatch Cover

The latest development of MacGregor is a folding-type weather-deck hatch cover in three sections, which is operated by a single wire from the ship's crane or derrick and thus requires no hydraulics or other means of drive.

Called the "Direct Pull" system, it is fully described in the December edition of MacGregor News, the quarterly magazine published by the International MacGregor Organisation, a leader in the design, manufacture and supply of cargo transfer and access equipment. The report highlights the first installation of Direct Pull weather-deck hatch covers on newbuildings in Britain, Canada and Norway.

Other articles in MacGregor News describe the MacGregor organization's continuing deep involvement in ro/ro operations with a report on the completion of a West German-built vessel for Tunisian ownership, and details of recent ro/ro orders in France, Japan and Finland.

The magazine also includes details on eight new Turkish semi-containerships which will be equipped with MacGregor Ermans Rolltite weather-deck hatch covers and sliding 'tween-deck covers.
