TBW Licensed To Manufacture IHI Deck Machinery

TBW Industries of Houma, La., announces the signing of a license agreement with Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (IHI) of Tokyo. The announcement was made by Robert M. Thompson, president of TBW Industries, and Yoshio Sato, managerengineering department, of t he Material Handling Equipment Division of IHI.

According to Mr. Thompson, the license covers TBW's manufacture of IHI's Mark II Series electrohydraulic cranes and deck machinery.

The equipment is designed for application on commercial maritime vessels and includes cranes from 5 to 80-ton capacities in both single and double configurations.

TBW's Smatco plant in Houma will be used as the manufacturing facility. Certain subassemblies will be manufactured at other TBW plant locations and shipped to the Houma plant for final assemblies and tests.

I t was also revealed that through a second license agreement, T BW will be able to offer IHI's unique low-speed, high-torque hydraulic motors for inclusion into this machinery.

"All products covered under the respective licenses can be produced with 100-percent American content as applicable," Mr. Thompson revealed. "To the best of our knowledge, we are the first U.S. firm to offer complete U.S.-made electrohydraulic deck cranes for the maritime industry."
