Three Papers And Tour Of Caterpillar Plant Features SNAME Section Meeting In Peoria

The fall meeting of the Great Lakes and Great Rivers Section, The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, was held at the Continental Regency Hotel in Peoria, 111., on October 12, 1978.

Ninety-five r e g i s t e r e d members and guests attended the meeting.

The Technical Session following the morning business meeting was highlighted by the presentation of three papers: "Development in Medium Speed Diesel Engines and Application for Ship Propulsion Systems" by Bernard Felkl, guest; "Maneuvering Characteristics of Great Lakes Vessels" by Steven Fisher, and "Great Lakes Bulk Carrier Auxiliary Power Design Considerations" by Jan Holterman, Jerry Mueller and Edward Salamant, members.

Following luncheon at the hotel, the Caterpillar Tractor Company hosted the group for two plant tours to inspect their B-B Facility which manufactures 3400 series engines, and the 1-D Plant where assembly of the 6!/4-inch bore engines takes place. The meeting adjourned about 4 p.m.

The next meeting of this Section will be held on January 26, 1979, at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville, Tenn.
