Jeffboat Lays Keel For 200-Foot Ferryboat To Operate On Mississippi At New Orleans

Jeffboat, Inc., Jeffersonville, Ind., recently announced the keel laying for the M/Y Capt. Neville Levy, a ferry under construction for the Mississippi River Bridge Authority, New Orleans, La. Completion is set for late 1977. The Capt. Neville Levy will carry up to 40 automobiles and 1,000 passengers per trip across the Mississippi River at New Orleans.

A sistership (also Jeffboat-built) will join the 200-foot-long by 73- foot-wide, 1,400-horsepower vessel in early 1978.

The Capt. Neville Levy was designed by Barnard & Thomas Engineering, Inc., and Gulf Marine Design, Inc., under a Capital Grant sponsored by the Mississippi River Bridge Authority and funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation, The Urban Mass Transportation Administration, and the State of Louisiana.

Features include three deck levels— main deck for automobiles, and upper and Texas deck for passengers, with ramps for loading and unloading.
