M.l.T. Schedules Course On Port Development
Massachusetts Institute of Technology has announced a summer course on port planning and development, which will be held from August 15 to 26, 1977. The objective of this course is to provide port planners, operators, administrators, or regulators with a basic grounding in the concepts and techniques in the field accumulated by the teaching staff.
The course will consist of a sequence of two one-week sessions designed to provide a firm basis in port planning and development.
The first week will provide a basic grounding in the fundamental concepts and techniques of management, planning, analysis and design of inland, coastal or offshore ports and terminals.
Basic concepts of transportations systems management and analysis will be presented in joint sessions with other transportation groups. Specific applications to port planning and development will be presented in specialized sessions.
The second week will be an indepth treatment of port planning and development, and will deal with the methodology as well as application of modern methods of port planning and development.
The whole program is designed for port planners, port managers, transportation analysts, civil engineers, and others concerned with the planning and operation of inland, coastal or offshore ports and terminals. This program will be under the general direction of Prof. E.G. Frankel.
The course will be held in conjunction with a coordinated set of six courses on transportation under the auspices of the MIT Center for Transportation Studies.
The other five courses are: Transportation Systems Management & Analysis, Air Transportation, Urban Transportation, Freight Transportation, and Forecasting Transportation Demand.
There will be opportunities to attend lectures in these other courses, if desired.
