Farrell Lines Inc. Names Captain Moore

Thomas J. Smith, president and chief executive officer, Farrell Lines Incorporated, One Whitehall Street, New York, N.Y.

10004, has announced the appointment of Capt. Alpha Moore as manager of the newly formed Marine and Cargo Claims Department.

This new department has been created by consolidating the Marine Claims Department with the Cargo Claims Department.

Captain Moore was born in Shreveport, La., and graduated from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Pass Christian, Miss., and the College of Insurance in New York City. Upon graduation from the Merchant Marine Academy, he sailed as third mate through master for a number of U.S. shipping companies, including States Marine, Delta Lines and Suwanee Steamship Company.

After obtaining his master's license and having spent 15 years at sea, he came ashore to be employed by the Suwanee Steamship Company of Jacksonville, Fla. He later was employed by MacGregor-Comarain Company in International Sales.

He joined Farrell Lines in 1966 as assistant port captain. In 1967, he was named safety director, and in 1970 was appointed manager- Cargo Claims Department.

Captain Moore is a member of the National Defense Transportation Association, the Marine Claims Association, and the Atlantic Safety Committee.
