Dravo Corp. Awarded $4 Million To Build Barge Unloader

Dravo Corporation, Pittsburgh, Pa., has received a contract in excess of $4 million to design, engineer and build a continuous bucket-elevator barge unloader for Cajun Electric Power Cooperative, Inc. of New Roads, La.

The new unloader, designed to unload 5,000 tons of coal an hour from jumbo barges in a two-pass operation, will be installed at the utility's new Big Cajun #2 Power Station on the Mississippi River near Baton Rouge. The operation will also include a Dravo-patented shuttle barge hauling system.

Coal will be shipped from Wyoming and Montana by rail to a coal terminal in St. Louis, Mo., and sent by barge to the power station. Approximately four million tons a year of lowsulfur coal will be used to generate electricity in Cajun Electric Power's two 540-megawatt generating units.

Dravo, with more than 50 years' experience in designing and constructing handling systems, is one of the world's leading manufacturers of bulk materials handling equipment.
