R.D. Carter Forms Intermodal Systems Co.

The formation of Carter Transport Associates has been announced by R.D. Carter. The firm will specialize in developing global intermodal operating, marketing and organization systems for all carrier modes, individual shippers, shippers' associations, government agencies and port administrations.

Headquarters will be at 4124 Boulevard Center Drive, Jacksonville, Fla. 32207.

Mr. Carter has been continuously active in intermodal transportation systems since 1966, when United States Lines, for whom he was general sales manager, introduced the first cellular containership concept on international trade routes. He then served as president of Transamerican Trailer Transport during its organization and full development. Most recently, he was president of Trailer Marine Transport Corp. Mr. Carter is a Kings Point graduate, a master mariner, and past president of the Containerization Institute.

"Carter Transport's function," Mr. Carter stated, "is to apply its extensive experience for the many industry segments and governments needing to adopt or improve intermodal systems.

"Complex problems in intermodal technology persist," he continued, "causing inadequate returns on capital already committed or contemplated. Carter Transport Associates will help these organizations achieve optimum results."
