SNAME Publishes New Vibration Code

In January 1975, The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers published Code C-l (Code for Shipboard Vibration Measurement) which addressed the problem of shipboard vibration.

Now the Society has published Code C-4 (Local Shipboard Structures and Machinery Vibration Measurements) to serve as a companion publication to Code C-l.

The use of Code C-4 in conjunction with Code C-l will aid in gathering, interpreting and presentation of data on hull vibration, propeller-excited longitudinal vibration of the propulsion shaft system, local structural element vibration and equipment vibration.

Included in Code C-4 are test requirements instrumentation, test procedures and a section for analysis and reporting of data.

In addition, standard data forms are included along with a sample test report.

The use of Codes C-4 and C-l will provide a basis for design predictions, improvements in ship design and a comparison with vibration reference levels or acceptable criteria. Code C-4 (Local Shipboard Structures and Machinery Vibration Measurements) was prepared by Panels HS-7 (Vibrations), and M-20 (Machinery Vibrations) for the Hull Structure Committee.

Technical and Research Code C-4 (Local Shipboard Structures and Machinery Vibration Measurements) is available from the Society at $7.50 per copy if payment accompanies the order. Society members price is $5. For additional information, contact the Society's Publications Department at 74 Trinity Place, New York, N.Y. 10006.
