MarAd Approves Title XI For Two Barge Operators Valued At $10.3 Million

The Maritime Administration has approved in principle the applications of two companies for Title XI guarantees to aid in financing the following vesselconstruction projects: Radcliff Materials, Inc., 61 St.

Joseph Street, Mobile, Ala., had applied for a guarantee to aid in financing the construction of 16 steel deck barges delivered in June, July and August 1976, by the American Bridge Division of United States Steel Corporation, Ambridge, Pa. The total estimated actual cost of the project is $5 million. The vessels are 240 feet long, have a beam of 50 feet and a draft of 10 feet, and are rated at 1,180 gross tons.

Radcliff, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Southern Industries Corporation, will use the vessels in marine dredging activities in the coastal waters of Louisiana and Alabama.

National Marine Service, Inc., 1750 Brentwood Boulevard, St.

Louis, Mo., had applied for a guarantee to aid in financing the construction of 15 double skin petroleum/chemical tank barges.

The vessels are scheduled for delivery between this month and June 1977, by St. Louis Ship Division, Pott Industries, St. Louis, Mo. The total estimated actual cost of the project is $5.3 million.

The vessels are 195 feet long, have a beam of 35 feet, draft of 10 feet, and are rated at approximately 1,461 dwt each. The company will operate the barges in the transportation of chemical or petroleum products on the inland waterways of the United States.
