ABS Elects Eleven New Members —Five New Managers

Eleven maritime executives from three countries were elected members of the American Bureau of Shipping at the annual meeting of the Society held in New York City on March 15. This brings to 380 the number of ABS members. The new members are: John Alioto, president, Pacific Far East Line, Inc., San Francisco, Calif.; R.E. Chisholm, manager, Marine Branch, Phillips Petroleum Company, Bartlesville, Okla.; Herbert Hansen, senior vice president, Waterman Steamship Corp., New Orleans, La.; John T. Jacobson, marine manager, SOHIO, Standard Oil Co.

(Ohio), Cleveland, Ohio; Vice Adm. E.C. Kuruvilla, chairman and managing director, Mazogon Dock Limited, Bombay, India; Robert Pierson, president, Robert Pierson Holdings, Ltd., Toronto, Canada; Capt. Richard T. Soper, executive vice president, Sea- Land Service, Inc., Edison, N.J.; Craig Stevenson, chairman of the board and chief executive, Sabine Towing & Transportation Co., Inc., Groves, Texas; John F. Sullivan Jr., president and chief executive officer, Bath Iron Works Corporation, Bath, Maine; Donald M. Birney, assistant secretary, American Bureau of Shipping, and Michael E. Musatow, assistant treasurer, American Bureau of Shipping.

Five executives in the maritime industry were elected for a three-year term to the board of managers. These elections were also held at the annual meeting.

The new managers are: James R. Barker, chairman, Moore-McCormack Resources, Inc., New York, N.Y.; Capt. J.W.

Clark, president, Delta Steamship Lines, Inc., New Orleans, La.; Ran Hettena, president, Maritime Overseas Corporation, New York, N.Y.; N.W. Johnsen, chairman, Central Gulf Lines, Inc., New York, N.Y., and Michael R. Naess, executive vice president, Zapata Corporation, Houston, Texas.

The American Bureau of Shipping is a nongovernmental, worldwide ship classification society which establishes internationally recognized standards, called Rules, for the; design, construction, and periodic survey of merchant vessels and other marine structures.
