Shipbuilders Council Elects New Board

At the Shipbuilders Council of America's 56th Annual Meeting, the following Board of Directors was elected to serve for a period of one year: Paul E. Atkinson, Sun Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Co.; Bernard J. Bannan, Western Gear Corporation; William C.

Brigham, Bethlehem Steel Corporation ; Ralph W. Cousins, Newport News Shipbuilding; Leonard Erb, Litton/Ingalls Shipbuilding; William E. Fogarty, Foster Wheeler Boiler Corp.; John T. Gilbride, Todd Shipyards Corporation; James F. Goodrich, Bath Iron Works Corporation; Edwin Hartzman, Avondale Shipyards, Inc.; Roland A. Kjelland, National Steel & Shipbuilding Co.; J. Radcliffe Maumenee, Alabama Dry Dock & Shipbuilding Company; John L.

Roper III, Norfolk Shipbuilding & Drydock Corporation; Richard G. Seitz, Maryland Shipbuilding & Drydock Company; John A.

John T. Gilbride was elected chairman of the Executive Committee, and Edwin Hartzman was elected Shipbuilding Committee chairman.

Frank R. Kesterman and Nicholas D. Pasco were elected vice president/secretary and vice president, respectively. To focus on area conditions, these directors were also elected Regional vice presidents: Atlantic Coast, John L. Roper III; Pacific Coast, Roland A. Kjelland; Gulf Coast, J.

Radcliffe Maumenee, and Great Lakes, Francis W. Theis.

Hood was again elected Board of Directors chairman, and Beverly C. Kendall, who came with the Council in 1959, was reelected treasurer. She has additional duties as special assistant to the president, and has a major role in preparation of each edition of the "Shipyard Weekly." Coincident with these elections, Council president Hood further named William G. Kurfehs as assistant to the president, with special responsibilities for collation and dissemination of statistical data pertinent to shipbuilding and ship repair.
