Deere adds 8.1 L Engine to Line
Building upon its commitment to the marine industry, Deere Power Systems Group introduced the Powertech 8.1 L marine engine at Fish Expo in Seattle.
Replacing John Deere's popular 7.6 L marine engine, the Powertech 8.1 L (6081AFM) marine engine joins the other models in the Powertech line — the 4.5 L, 6.8 L, and 12.5 L engines. The six-cylinder, turbocharged and aftercooled Powertech 8.1 L engine, more specifically referred to as the 6081AFM, offers 235 hp at 2,100 rpm, 300 hp at 2,200 rpm, 330 hp at 2,300 rpm, and 375 hp at 2,400 rpm. Keelcooled and heat-exchanged versions are also available.
The in-line engine is electronically controlled, provides performance information, and features self-diagnostics that allow the engine to protect itself against anomalies, such as overheating and low oil pressure. The heavy-duty engine offers full authority and proven electronics which optimize performance and fuel usage for given operating conditions. Typical applications for the Powertech 6081AFM engine include fishing boats, lobster boats, cabin cruisers, motor yachts, dive boats, charter/sport fishing boats, passenger ferry boats, whalewatching and other tourist boats, and fast-fishing boats. The Powertech 6081AFM generator set engine is available for base load ship power. The propulsion engine is ideal for boats ranging from 30- to 50-ft. (9.1-15.2 m) hull length, in semi-displacement or semi-planing hulls. The Powertech 6081AFM engine's improvements over its predecessor include more displacement and increased power, while still being able to fit in the same location as the 6076AFM engine. The Powertech 6081AFM engine can meet all needs of vessels normally powered with 8- to 10- liter engines. In addition, the 2,400-rpmrated Powertech 6081AFM engine is able to compete against other engines in its class that have higher rpms.
