Bergeron Awarded Contract To Build 195-Foot Cement Barge For Kosmos

Ed Shearer, corporate vice president of marketing of Bergeron Industries, St. Bernard, La., announced recently that Bergeron has signed a contract with Kosmos Cement Company, Inc., of Louisville, Ky., for a cement barge. The barge will be a 195- foot by 52-foot 6-inch by 12-foot open hopper-type barge equipped with an 1,800-ton-capacity pneumatic tank.

The barge is being designed and built by Bergeron, with the tank designed, built and installed by Pnu-Tank of Houma, La. The completed barge will be used by Kosmos in their Ohio River cement transportation system. Kosmos Cement Company, Inc., is a subsidiary of Moore McCormack Cement, Inc., of Tampa, Fla.

Bergeron Industries, Inc. is one of the nation's leading producers of barges, operating shipyards in Braithwaite, La., Port Bienville, Miss., and Demopolis, Ala.
