Uniflite Awarded Contract For 42-Foot Explosive Disposal Training Boat

A 42-foot explosive ordnance disposal training boat valued at $218,500 has been ordered by the U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command from Uniflite, Inc., fiberglass boat manufacturer of Bellingham, Wash., and Swansboro, N.C., according to James J. Doud Jr., Uniflite president.

The vessel is being built at the company's Swansboro plant to standards of the American Bureau of Shipping and will be certified by the U.S. Coast Guard to carry passengers. It will be powered with twin Detroit Diesel 6-71 marine engines.

Delivery is scheduled for December 1983 to the U.S. Navy E.O.D. School, Indian Head, Md.

The boat is a modification of the standard 42-foot Uniflite patrol boat design and is similar to 10 previous boats built for the Army's Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland and for the State of Alaska.
