Dragger/Scalloper "Settler7 Delivered By Gamage Shipyard

The Edward T. Gamage shipyard in East Boothbay, Maine, recently d e l i v e r e d the westernrigged dragger/scalloper Settler to Capt. Didrik Didriksen of New Bedford, Mass.

Designed by Woodin & Marean, Inc. of West Boothbay Harbor, Maine, the Settler is the ninth fishing vessel built by the Gamage yard during its first three years of operation. She represents Woodin & Marean's solution to the problems facing fishing vessel designers today—to satisfy the requirements of an experienced skipper/ owner while producing a boat having required strength and stability with a minimum of weight.

The vessel's hull, with a refrigerated hold capacity of more than 200,000 pounds of iced fish, is built of 5/16-inch Cor-ten steel, reinforced and strengthened at points subject to local stresses from fishing gear.

The Settler is powered by a Caterpillar D398 diesel driving a 74-inch by 50-inch, four-blade Columbian Bronze propeller at a gear ratio of 4:1. During her delivery trip, on the 130-mile leg from Maine to Cape Cod, she averaged 11 knots.

The vessel has an overall length of 90 feet 8 inches, length at the waterline of 83 feet 4 inches, beam of 23 feet 6 inches, molded draft of 9 feet IV2 inches, and maximum draft of 11 feet 8V2 inches.
