Floyd H. Blaske

One of the most prominent men in the Inland Waterways shipping industry, Floyd H. Blaske, died on February 27, 1977. He was 63.

Services were held in Louisville, Ky., on March 2.

Mr. Blaske was chairman and chief executive officer of the American Commercial Barge Line Co., and of Jeffboat, Inc., which are among the largest towboat companies and shipyards on the river system. With the exception of World War II service as a naval officer, which included command of an LST in the Pacific, he was actively engaged in the river towboat industry for over 40 years.

Mr. Blaske served on numerous national committees, two years as National vice president, and National president of The Propeller Club of the United States in 1967 and 1968. He was the first representative from the Inland Waterways to serve as National Propeller Club president, and in that capacity most ably supported Propeller Club objectives of promotion of an American merchant marine in all its segments — ocean, inland waterways, and Great Lakes — that would be adequate for the national security and economic welfare of our country.

Mr. Blaske was a prominent leader and spokesman and was well known in the inland towboat industry. His many friends will miss him. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, who lives at 5100 Brownsboro Road, Louisville, Ky.
