ASNE Delaware Valley Section Given Report On Innovative Integrated Logistics Support

Approximately 38 members attended the recent Delaware Valley Section, American Society of Naval Engineers, meeting held at the Commissioned Officers Club of the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard.

They heard a very interesting report entitled "Innovative Integrated L o g i s t i c s Support (ILS) for the 1980's," given by J. Finnegan, RCA Corporation.

A major computer-control weapons system with fast reaction time to a multiplicity of targets is by nature too complex for maintenance concepts of the 1950s and 1960s. The AEGIS Weapons System, Mark VII, typifies the complexity of such systems, and also carries availability requirements of such a level that standard approaches to fault detection and maintenance are precluded.

This report described the job information delivery system designed especially for AEGIS, featuring a highly automated Operational Readiness Test System (ORTS), supplemented by a useroriented AEGIS Maintenance Publications System (AMPS) that replaces virtually all standard printed technical manuals.
